Helping to make online classes accessible to Deaf students

I wanted to share a demonstration from an online class offered at Santa Monica College.

    • This online course has ASL interpretation and English captioning.
    • All support materials are designed for accessible technologies
      • JAWS Ready (information from the screen is read aloud for Visually Impaired)
      • Captioned for ESL Students
      • Online Lectures for Self Paced Learners

Many Deaf and Hard of Hearing and ESL students are unable to bridge the digital divide, because their reading and language comprehension levels are not sufficient to comprehend much of the information.  Combining voice, captions, ASL and graphics all in the same window is a great transition to give these students an opportunity to be successful.

Check out the demonstration lesson:   http://ciswebs.smc.edu/cis1HiTech/Demo/CIS1ComputerConcepts.html
